Google Meet Extension for Note Taking - Google Meet Will NEVER Be The Same

​Google Meet will never be the same. In this article, I’ll introduce a new online conference tool that will make meetings fun again. 

If you’re like me, you do a lot of video conferencing calls day in and day out. Just when I thought that I had got the hang of all these conference calls, I’d hit a proverbial wall of burnout, especially with the amount of note-taking required to keep up with all of the calls. It’s one thing to interact with people on the other end of the call, it’s another thing to try to facilitate the call professionally while trying to take specific notes about their needs and wants. It’s definitely challenging to mix that friendly face with an otherwise administrative task of taking concise notes because it can sometimes ruin a call if you’re asking them to slow down during conversation so that you can keep up with your notes.

I thought that simply activating a recording of my conferencing calls would make it easier so that I could watch the call later and takes notes after the fact. However, what I realized is that it was more work to transcribe and segment out the important parts of the meeting after the fact.

This will take you to the Chrome Extension page where you can go ahead and add the Google Chrome extension. You can then jump straight into a Google Meeting from this page by clicking Start an Instant Meeting. Once clicked, you will see the Laxis extension floating on the side of your screen. To enable the transcription feature on Laxis, you will need to turn on live captions for your Google Meeting by clicking the CC (closed captions) button at the bottom of your screen. When you start your meeting, Laxis will capture each attendees’ comments verbatim and allow you to flag items in real time for follow-up. 

Once you end the meeting, you will be hyperlinked to your new Laxis account where you can then review the real-time transcription for the call and you can group together the most important components of the call. It also gives you the ability to share the transcription with other meeting attendees.

You can set up a custom personalized template within Laxis to help you extract insights, action items and key quotes from and across meetings. You can start by using one of the preloaded templates to get a feel for how it works or you can create your own template by choosing overview topics of discussion as well as assigning keywords for Laxis to highlight and segment after the meeting is completed. These highlights allow you to easily review high level notes after the call has ended. These features can be extremely useful to product researchers, UX designers and market researchers who perform a lot of interviews and need to manage these quotes and insights.

You can also use Laxis solely as a transcription tool. It allows you to upload existing audio files to be transcribed as well as record and transcribe videos playing on your desktop or audio being spoken by your computer. Just the other day I was meeting with a colleague and we were researching a particular topic. We found a video online and we played it from our browser window with Laxis recording it in the background and it transcribed the entire video allowing us to further review the information being discussed in the video.
