Virtual Backgrounds in Google Meet Change your background for any effect within Google Meet by following this easy tutorial. Whether you want to cheer up coworkers in your next virtual meeting or look professional for an upcoming business call, virtual backgrounds can help you improve the way you work from home in your next meeting. Easy to Follow Google Meet Virtual Background Guide When you open Google Meet, there is no easy button to enable a virtual background. Instead, you need to install a plugin to allow a sidebar to become available. This sidebar offers you many options to apply visual effects directly to your video feed. Click Here to access the plugin that we use called Visual Effects for Google Meet. Simply install this extension onto your Chrome browser and when inside of Google Meet the icon for the plugin becomes active. It is important to note that this extension is safe. The Visual Effects for Google Meet privacy policy states that their extension will never save, collect, or do anything else with your data. You can use the Google Meet Virtual Background with or without a greenscreen; however, it is important to note that greenscreens will promote better results. If you need a greenscreen, we recommend this option from Amazon OR this option from WebAround When you first upload an image with this tool, the image itself will be flipped. This is not so bad if you have a generic scene behind you but it will cause problems if you have text or a logo behind you. Let me first show you how to flip an image before we upload it as our virtual background. To flip your image, jump over to a content creation tool called Kapwing at https://www.kapwing.com/ and create your free account. Once inside Kapwing, click on New Project, then click on Start with Studio, then click on Start with a Blank Canvas. Once inside the studio tool, click Upload at the top, and click again on Click to Upload to upload your image file. Once your image is uploaded, click on the crop button to ensure you are working within a 16:9 resolution. Once you have verified you are working within 16:9, click done cropping. Now to flip the image, hover over Rotate. Click to flip the image. Okay, now you have a flipped image. Next click on the Publish button and simply download your image. Now jump back into Google Meet. Hover over the sidebar and scroll down to the Upload Background button, click that and upload your image. Once it’s uploaded, click in the box under Green Screen to turn it on and select Virtual to use a virtual background without a greenscreen.
