Troubleshooting Tips for Zoom Virtual BackgroundsI've recently had a few clients who could not get their virtual backgrounds to work properly inside Zoom. I'm going to walk you through several steps to help you troubleshoot your issue. Let's get right down to it. Virtual Background System RequirementsVirtual Backgrounds Compatibility To begin, please review the system requirements on Zoom's website. If you're unable to enable the virtual background option, especially the video background, it's likely your system isn't compatible. If you're on a PC or Mac, you need at least an i5 processor or better. If you're on an iPad, you need an iPad Pro or better. If you're on an iPhone, you need an iPhone 8 or better. If you're on an Android, sorry, that is not currently supported. To view a list of the full system requirements, please the Zoom resource page. How To Enable Zoom Virtual BackgroundsYou may have noticed during a meeting that you don't even see an option available for any kind of virtual background in the video options or settings windows. So to change that, end the meeting, then jump over to a browser window to visit Zoom's website which is zoom.us, then go ahead and login into your Zoom account from there. Once inside you'll be on your Profile page, simply click into Settings. then scroll down the list of the Settings page until you see the Virtual background option. If the Virtual background option it turned off, you will need to turn it on and it will save automatically. Next, go back into the Zoom application and click back on your profile icon, and click on Check for updates. Once that is done or installed, click back on your profile icon and go ahead and sign out of your Zoom account. Then, sign back in. Now launch a new meeting, and click on the arrow next to Video. Now you can see the option for virtual backgrounds. Choose virtual background and on this Settings menu click over here on the plus "+" icon to add your image or video backgrounds. How To Fix A Flipped Virtual BackgroundIf you added a photo or video background and it's not displaying properly, sometimes it can get flipped. To correct this click, click the arrow next to video and go to the video settings. Now click on the tab to disable Mirror my video. This should rectify your image to display properly. Use Better Lighting to Help Assist Picture QualityIf your background is blending into your real background, then you likely don't have enough light to support the effect. Try moving into an area with lots of light, overhead lights or windows will do. File Types for Video BackgroundsIf you're having trouble uploading a video background, convert your files to a .mp4 before uploading to ensure success. ![]() If you're unhappy with your virtual background selection, I offer a gig on Fiverr where I can create a branded virtual background for you to integrate into your meetings, like the image above. Suddenly my virtual screens won't work. Both stock and custom virtual backgrounds won't load when I click them on. The setting for virtual backgrounds is enabled. I see the choices, but when I select a virtual background it does not load. I am on a MacBook Pro OS Catalina 10.15.7
